Our
Story
The Bit & Bridle Guide began with a simple 4-H project and a passion for learning. As a young equestrian, I wanted to better understand one of the most important, and often misunderstood, pieces of riding equipment: the bit. What started as a research paper soon became a poster board presentation at the county fair, laying the foundation for what would eventually grow into The Bit & Bridle Guide.
That first project sparked a lasting commitment to equine education. Since then, I have shared information about bits with various audiences at equine events. Along the way, one thing became increasingly clear: many riders want to learn more about bits
The Bit & Bridle Guide was created to provide that.
Our mission is to provide free, informative, and accurate education about all things bits while helping create a more informed and educated equestrian community. We believe every rider deserves access to trustworthy resources that help them better understand the equipment they use.
At The Bit & Bridle Guide, education comes first. By making bit information approachable and understandable, we hope to empower equestrians to make informed decisions that support both effective riding and horse welfare.
About the Admin
My name is Clara Thompson
As a third-generation horseman, horses and horsemanship have always been a major part of my life. Growing up around horses instilled in me not only a love for riding, but also a deep passion for education and lifelong learning. I am constantly striving to expand my knowledge and understanding of the equestrian world.
Bits have always been part of my horse experience. My mom was known as “the bit lady,” and we have had a 50-pound crate full of bits in our tack room for many years. Riders would regularly come to her for advice, recommendations, and bit trials, and I grew up listening to conversations about fit, function, and finding the right bit for individual horses. Those experiences shaped not only my interest in bits but also my belief in the importance of equine education.
